I came across this excellent article by the Harvard Business Review about how trust relates to productivity in business. It turns out trust goes a long way towards creating a productive learning environment with students as well. Trust doesn't end in the classroom though. Between teachers in a building, across entire school boards and in the education system in Ontario as a whole, trust is the cement that turns us from individuals into powerfully focused groups.
This week we were handed a remedy for a court case won by teacher's unions in Ontario.In that time Ontario shot up the ranks in terms of world education. The strips to sick days actually cost Ontario more even before the government lost the court case and had to pay restitution. I wish there was some way to convey how truly wonderful this book is. It's a multi-generationl novel, but not in that epic, expansive way I expect from stories of that sort. No this is an intimate, personal family story. I hardly ever cry over books, and yet this one brought me to tears several different times.

This months Michaels Makers challenge was just the push I needed to start embracing this house and add a few personal touches to the walls. We don't want to do any unnecessary damage. I realize that waiting to decorate and hang a few things on the walls was holding me back from embracing this house and all of its quirks. Hanging these photos was just what I needed to help make this house feel more like a home. I decided on a variety of family photos, a shot of my husband and I and a favorite photo of the kids.
